Want to know how to get sponsored ? Do you guys sponsor? I get this question a lot from skaters on Instagram. Honestly, most people that ask just do not have what it takes. In reality, most people that ask just don't know what it takes. So this blog is for anyone that wants to get sponsored, here is what it takes.
it all comes down to sales because shit ain't free. So ask yourself, does my activity generate value ?
Write down what kind of activities you want to get sponsored for, then next to that, how it would generate value.
Value can be sales, information, leads or more, depending on the organization.
If you are a skater for example, when you compete in a skate contest wearing a branded t-shirt, you are creating value through exposure, or if you make good video parts, with lots of views, and consistently exposing a certain brand, that is also creating value.
Now that we have talked about creating value through exposure, now we talk about the mindset required.When a brand decides to sponsor you or not, they are deciding whether to invest in you or not. if there will be any return on investment. They have to consider not only the cost of the sponsorship but also the opportunity cost. Opportunity cost is the cost of doing something, so like if you were deciding whether to get an iPhone or android, the opportunity cost of getting an android is an iPhone and vice versa.
When a brand decides to sponsor you or not, they are deciding whether to invest in you or not. A brand's main goal when sponsoring you is getting a return on investment. They have to consider not only the cost of the sponsorship but also the opportunity cost.
Think of it like ads, you see them everywhere on facebook, Instagram and google at the top of the page. In the advertising space, there is the thing called conversion, it's the number of people that click on the ad, and does what the ad was intended for, like buying something. Compared to the number of people that view the ad.

For an organization, the opportunity cost of sponsoring you could be developing the product line. it could also be sponsoring another candidate. Or spending the money on advertising to paying customers.
The last thing you need to do to get sponsored demonstrate your value. That's why sponsor videos were a thing. but in today's world, the three things that matter most are;
1. The quality of content or skill you provide.
2. The number of social media followers and engagement.
3. The character does your character resonate with the brand.
So before you ask anyone to sponsor you, Make sure you know how your activities create value. demonstrate the value you would add to the organization. And communicate how you would convert them, customers.
